For almost 21 years, Alma Meza has been a vital staff member of the College of Health, Education and Social Transformation.

Meza joined what was then known as the College of Education in March 2002. She is now an administrative assistant in the School of Teacher Preparation, Administration and Leadership, serving as fiscal manager for the unit.

Since first joining the college, Meza developed a reputation of being helpful and reliable to students, faculty and fellow staff. In 2020, she was presented with the Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts Memorial Staff Award.

“I know the overall functions of our school and work with staff members, student workers and all the faculty,” Meza said. “My job has many features, which are different day to day. However, as a fiscal agent, I look for ways to use resources in a more effective and efficient manner. Once in a while, I help students with academic questions and see them through to complete their degree.”

In his Roberts Memorial Staff Award nomination letter written on Meza’s behalf, TPAL Director Rick Marlatt said the school “would be unable to function without the exemplary services and tireless dedication demonstrated by Alma on a daily basis.”

Meza said she enjoys her job.

“I enjoy working alongside with the TPAL faculty and NMSU community and have learned a lot from faculty, staff and students through my employment,” she said.
